Long before you actually arrive at the Residence, your planning begins! You need to put together a list of things you’ll want to bring with you to make your residence room at Innis feel like “Home Suite Home”. However, there are some things that you really don’t need to pack because they are provided for you. See the About the Residence page to see what furniture and items are provided for you.
Remember, there is no storage space outside of your suite and you will be living with 3 or 4 other people who will also be bringing their belongings, so pack wisely and bring only what is necessary.
It is also a good idea to mark your property and record all your serial numbers. In the interest of your safety & the security of your belongings, you should always keep your doors closed and locked when you are not present. The University is not liable for any lost or stolen articles anywhere on campus. Students are advised to carry insurance (perhaps through a rider on a parent’s policy) against any loss or damage of your personal property.

A special note about Sub-WoofersThe Innis Residence is a primarily concrete building. This means that sound vibrations, particularly from bass, can carry readily through the walls and floors. A number of the noise problems that people encounter in residence are not a result of loud music, but as a result of hearing the pounding bass that is amplified by a sub-woofer. It is best if you do not bring sub-woofers for your stereo and that you disable the sub-woofer for your computer. If you receive any noise complaints that are a result of a sub-woofer, as determined by the Residence Staff, you will be asked to disconnect the sub-woofer or remove it from the Residence. |
Moving additional furniture into the Residence is prohibited by Fire Regulations and health & safety concerns. There are not storage facilities for Residence furniture displaced by items you bring.
You are allowed to bring your own desk chair.
No. Only Innis Residence-issued furniture is allowed within the student bedroom, suite and common areas. Due to Fire Regulations, you must not move any additional furniture into either your room or suite, especially if the furniture is stuffed or potentially combustible. Furthermore, furniture from outside the Residence may not be properly cleaned and could constitute a health hazard. In addition, we have no storage facilities available anywhere within the residence to store furniture that you would move out of your room or suite.
One exception to this rule is that you are allowed to bring your own desk chair from home.
No. For safety and liability reasons, all furniture within your room and suite must not be disassembled, moved or reconfigured in a manner for which it was not originally designed. The student will bear the cost of any maintenance or repairs to any furniture damaged due to moving or disassembling.
