The easiest way to get involved as an Innis student is to just come out to our events! You can also host your own events, get involved as an IRC member, and/or participate in the numerous committees and clubs at the Residence.
Suite events are events that you hold with your suitemates and other residents. They’re a great way to meet other residents and have a lot of fun. Plus, they look great on your reapplication to the Residence! Each suite that holds an event gets a budget from the IRC for event supplies.
The events that tend to work best are focused around an activity, rather than just giving out food. For example: you could host a movie night during the night of the Oscars ceremony. Use your imagination – the more creative, the more successful your event will be!
To host a suite event, talk to your House Rep. They can give you feedback on your idea, help you to improve upon it, and will authorize the event to make sure you get reimbursed. Your House Reps are also responsible for approving your posters to put up around the building so that people know about your event.
House Olympics are monthly events at which you come together with your house and compete against the other houses in the building. You can expect past House Olympics events, such as: Photo Scavenger Hunt, Trivial Pursuit, Iron Chef, and Whose Line is it Anyway?
House Points are awarded to the winning house. At the end of the year, the house with the most house points wins the House Cup and a big mystery prize, courtesy of the IRC.
While House Olympics is the main way to win House Points, there will be opportunities to win House Points at other events throughout the year.
The IRC has 3 permanent committees: GAME Committee, Environmental Committee and Fit Club. Each committee has at least 2 co-chairs – one elected in the spring, and any additional co-chairs are selected in the fall at the discretion of the current co-chair. Committees are a great way to meet people with similar interests, be involved, and impact the Innis, U of T, and Toronto communities.
The Game and Media Entertainment (GAME) Committee hosts a variety of entertainment events throughout the academic year, such as video game tournaments, Saturday morning cartoons, movie nights and much more!

The environmental committee strives to promote environmental stewardship and encourage environmentally sustainable behaviour. We will accomplish this through a variety of active and passive education campaigns, as well as by running events. We hope to educate each resident on various techniques that can be used to reduce their environmental footprint.

Fit club is an aspect of the Innis community where residents of any fitness level can come together and participate in fun physical activities. Not only are novel and creative events hosted with various mental and physical disabilities kept in mind, but It is a great way for residents to meet new people and become a part of the community that is Innis.
