Most of your day-to-day interaction with the Office of Student Life | Innis Residence staff happens at the Front Desk. Staffed 24/7, Front Desk Staff are responsible for handling the reception duties of Innis Residence, helping to maintain the safety and security of all the residents, and relaying information to and from the Office of Student Life. Many of our Front Desk Staff live in the building, so you will get to know them quickly.
The majority of your interaction with the Front Desk will involve the following:
Identification: You must always identify yourself to the Front Desk whenever you enter the building. The Front Desk changes shifts throughout the day and evening, and new staff is hired seasonally so, until they all get to know who you are, it is necessary for you to identify yourself as you go by the Front Desk.
Guest Sign-In: YOU must always sign-in all your guests at the Front Desk. Your guests should sign themselves out when they leave. For your own security and the safety of the entire building, the Front Desk requires an accurate record of who is in the building and which Resident they are visiting. Communication: The Front Desk can always be reached by the intercom in your suite. Front Desk will announce any guests or deliveries for you by this intercom. In an emergency situation, you can contact the Front Desk using the intercom; the Front Desk will then contact your Don via the intercom or page on-call staff to attend to the issue.
Temporary and Replacement Keys: You can sign-out a Limited Use Key from the Front Desk for 1 hour if you lock yourself out of your room. Each Resident is entitled to ten Limited Use Keys without charge. Limited Use Keys beyond the tenth, or Limited Use Keys kept longer than 1 hour are subject to a $25 charge, posted to your ACORN account. Lost keys are subject to a $25 charge, posted to your ACORN account, and can also be obtained from the Front Desk.
Information: You can file Maintenance Reports regarding any damages, or file an IT request regarding any problems with internet. Also available at the Front Desk are maps, calendars, guidebooks, restaurant and take-out flyers, and other seasonal information that may pertain to Residence or University life. Our staff are generally familiar with campus, University offices, and the city.
Delivery: The Front Desk is the area where mail, courier, and other deliveries are accepted and signed for.
